The Prisoner

"Captain," says Lt Terry Gates over the com channel.
"Yes Lt Gates. How's our guest holding up?"
"I think you'd better come down and see for yourself."
"I'll be right there."

"Yes, Lieutenant, what is it?"
"It's the prisoner sir."
"What about him, Lt.?"
"Hi Aunt Jillian," says James Smith from his cell. "Well aren't you going to say something, Jillian?"
"It's Captain Smith," she responds. "Since when are you a Lieutenant?"
"Oh that, Tom made a Lt., cool eh!"
"As far as I'm concerned you're still a second year cadet whose grades, practical jokes and constant misbehavior don't give you a ray of hope for ever making it to thrid year," says the Captain sternly. "If I was in charge of the academy I would've expelled you long ago. You shouldn't even on a starship, yet alone a Lt, but enough of that, let's get to this little matter of sabotage shall we. Firstly, I would really like to know how you got aboard my ship when I had the shields up?"
"I bet you would Captain."
"Fine, if that's the way you want it, I'll let the Empress deal with you."
"Empress Chun-Li," says James nervously.
"Yes, I'm to hand over all prisoners from the Triton over to her to personally deal with."
"Please, Aunt Jillian, I'll do anything, just don't give me over to her."
"Tell me how you got on my ship and I'll consider it."
"i...i...i can't," says a scared James.
"Lt. Gates escort him to the Empress when get back to Midgar. I'll meet you there. Oh, and make sure he changes his clothes. He is no longer a member of Hydro Force and I don't want her to see him in that uniform."
"Aye sir"

Well, James seems to be a little nervous and scared to talk to the Empress. Tune in next time to find out what happens with young James.

" 'Lieutenant, see to our guest. Commander you have the bridge.'
'Computer, continue last log.
Just as I suspected the Triton altered course to intercept us. During our encounter
the Triton somehow penetrated our shields and teleported a saboteur and sabotaged
our warp drive. My major concern now is returning to Empress Chun-Li empty
handed. She was counting on me to bring her ship back and I let her down.
Hopefully i can explain what happen and she won't be to upset. If the Dragons
know the frequency of our sheilds than there is no hope of winning against them.'

'Captain Smith,' interrupts Ensign Perez.
'Go ahead Ensign.'
'The warp drive has been repaired.'
'Good, best speed back to Midgar.'
'Aye sir.'
'Captain,' questions Commander Tyler.
'Yes commander?'
'What about the Triton?'
'The Triton will have to wait.'
'What the Empress, she...'
'I'll worry about her. You worry about ship.'
'Aye sir.'

'Computer continue log.

Upon our arrival at Midgar and after the prisoner is handed over to the Empress
I'm going to request permission to go after the Triton again.' "

Whoa! What is going to happen next.

The Encounter

"'Hailing frequencies open,' says Lieutenant Cera.
'Commander of the Triton, you are ordered to lower your sheilds and surrender,'
'This is Captain Tom Brandon of the Triton. Why would we surrender to you and your crippled vessel, Captain Jillian?'
'It's Captain Smith and if you scan us, Tom, you'll find that we are more than capable of defending ourselves perhaps even more than you.'
'It seems I underestimated you and the Empress but you still don't stand chance against us.'
'Tom, two ships are decloaking on either side of us. It's the Twin Star and Star Twin,' reports a Lieutenant from the Triton.
'It seems you're outnumbered Tom. I'd surrender if I were you.'
'You won't get me that easily Jillian. Lieutenant, any heading, warp nine, engage.'
'Captain, we're being hailed by the Star Twin.'
'On screen and lower shields.'
'Well, Captain Smith how was your first command experience?'
'I enjoyed it very much Captain Xomat, but it's not over. Thanks for your help. Now if don't mind I have a ship to catch.'
'I wouldn't be so anxious to catch the Triton.'
'Oh, and why not?'
'Because while you and Tom were talking the Triton penetrated your shields and teleported a saboteur on board and sabotaged your warp drive. So you wouldn't catch them anyway.'
'Ensign Perez can you verify this?'
'Yes sir, we can only travel at impulse.'
'It seems I underestimated you to Tom.'
'Somehow the Dragons found out the frequency of our shields.'
Lieutenant Gates, find that saboteur and...'
'That won't be necessary Jillain.'
'And why is this Xamot?'
'I have located him and teleported him to my ship.'
'Well, could you be so kind as to teleport him back here. After all he sabotaged my ship not yours.'
'As you wish . I will teleport him to your brig.'
'Thank you Xamot, Smith out.'"

Ready for Departure?

"Back on board the Titan things like the lifts and food dispensers still aren't functioning. The teleporter has minimal power and the time for departure has come.
'Commander report' says Captain Smith as enters the bridge.
'Minimal teleporter power, maximum speed of warp 6.3. Food dispensers still off line, lifts have partial power and weapons and shields fully functional.'
'That will have to do. Ensign Perez, take us out at one quarter impulse.'
'Aye sir. We have cleared spacedoors, waiting further orders.'
'Set a course for the last knows location of the Triton, warp six.'
'Course laid in sir but, we can't go to warp while still in our own solar system.'
'Ensign, we have to catch the Triton before she gets to far away. Warp 6, engage.'
'Aye sir.'
'Commander you have to bridge.'
Captain Smith went to her ready room feeling uneasy about what might happen if they did have to go into battle.

'Captain's log, supplemental,

We are on route to the last known location of the renegade Triton. However, I
personally feel that she will not be there and probably knows by now that we are
hot on her trail and has probably changed course to intercept us. All our systems
are still not fully functioning and probably won't be by the time we reach the Triton
or she reaches us. I am...'

'Captain Smith to the bridge.'
'What's the problem Commander?'
'It seems the Triton has changed coarse to intercept us.'
'I suspected as much. Hail them.'"

Whoa, what will happen. Keep coming back.

Report of the Progress

"'We have a problem with the warp drive Captian.'
'What is it?'
'We don't have it'
'Then I suggest you get it, because we leave in 3 hours and 45 minutes.'
'Aye sir!'
Forty-five minutes before departure Captain Smith reported to the Empress.
'Empress Chun-Li, Captain Smith of the Titan is here.'
'Thank you Private, send her in.'
'Captain Smith reporting as ordered, sir.'
'At ease Captain, and please don't call me sir, I hate that. How's the Titan coming along.'
'We have maximum speed of warp six and minimal telelporter power.'
'What about defense and weapon systems?'
'Fully functional s.... I mean Empress.'
'Thank you. I'm impressed that's alot of work for four hours. Tell your engineer good work.'
'I'm not bragging, but I do have the best engineering crew in the fleet.'
'I know, I gave them to you. Jillian, I want to make sure you understand your orders. You are not to destroy the Triton. It's a valuable ship and want it back. I've sent messages to the other starships and the nearest outposts to be on the lookout for them. But, chances are that they won't be recieved by the time you catch them.'
'I will bring back the ship.'
'I'm counting on you, Jillian. I know your ship isn't in the best condition but I know you can do it.'
'With all due respect, the Titan is a disaster but, I won't let you down.'
'Bring me all the prisoners, I will deal with them myself. Dismissed.'
'Yes Empress.'

Not to bad for four hours. Sounds like Scotty is the engineer, but he's not.

Start of Chapter One

"Let's check in the construction of the Titan.

'Commander Taylor, what seems to be the problem?' asks Captain Jillian Smith.
'Captain Smith,' asks Lt Commander Cynthia Taylor puzzled as to why the Captain is on board. 'I wasn't aware you were on board yet.'
'I just arrived. Why are we so behind schedule?'
'It's taken longer than we thought sir.'
'Obviously! But why? We should be ready to go.'
'But....we're not schuduled to depart for another week,' says Lt. Com. Taylor.
'New orders. We're to leave in four hours.'
'Four hours. There is no way we can be ready by then.'
'That's what I told Admiral Wei but, those are our orders.'
'Who does the Admiral think she is giving an order like that!'
'The orders aren't hers. They come straight from the top.'
'The President?'
'No, the Empress. It seems as though the Dragons have stolen the Triton and we are the only ship close enough to catch her.'
'But Captain, we can't be ready in four hours.'
'I know that Commmander and with any other engineering crew working on this ship I wouldn't even think about the orders and would go to the Empress myself and talk to her. But Cynthia, if anyone can do it, you can.'
'Thank you Captain. We'll leave on time and we'll be ready.'
'Focus on weapon, defensive and propulsion systems. The rest will have to be done en route.'"
